Tinolang Manok (Chicken Tinola)

This dish is a very popular authentic food in the Philippines. A chicken based soup with ginger and onions, combined with malunggay (horseradish leaves), dahon ng sili (pepper leaves), sayote (chayote), and spinach that will truly give your body warmth and comfort. This dish is perfect anytime, or best served during cold rainy nights or when you are feeling under the weather. I hope you try this recipe and let me know what you think!


Ingredients & Measurements:

  • 2 tbsp Oil

  • 1 medium onion (chopped)

  • 1 whole ginger (sliced)

  • 8-10pcs of chicken

  • 2 tsp salt

  • 2 tsp pepper

  • 1 chicken cube

  • 4-5 cups of water

  • 4 tbsp fish sauce

  • 3 pcs sayote (chopped into cubes)

  • Malunggay (Horseradish Leaves)

  • Dahon ng Sili (Pepper Leaves)

  • 1 bunch fresh spinach

Method:

  1. In a hot pan with oil, cook onions for about 1 minute

  2. Add ginger saute for another minute

  3. Add Chicken, mix to incorporate aroma of onions & ginger

  4. Add salt, pepper, chicken cube, and then ADD water

  5. Bring it to a boil and add fish sauce

  6. Continue boiling the chicken for about 15-20 mins or until chicken is cooked

  7. Add sayote, cook for another 3 mins until tender

  8. Finally add spinach, dahon ng malunggay & sili

  9. Serve and Enjoy!
